Neste caso usamos LED lamps, a fim de obter mais luz com menor consumo. Gasta-se, geralmente 2 anos da economia a ser gerada pelo sistema no momento da instalação, sendo que o sistema dura mais de 10 anos, sem substituição sequer de luminarias.
2- Emergência
Aqui se espera que mesmo na falta de energia, convencional, as luminarias permaneçam acesas, neste caso usam-se baterias, (estas duram cerca de cinco anos), para o armazenamento de energia pelo periodo esperado de falta de energia, considerando-se o consumo máximo do sistema. (O recarregamento das baterias pode ser feito por qualquer meio, inclusive pela própria rede).
3- Geração de Energia
Podemos unir ao segundo sistema acima a geração de energia solar ou eólica, caso a geração seja muito grande, da ordem de muitos Kw, estes podem ser injetados diretamente na rede, dispensando o uso de baterias, sendo repartida com seus vizinhos, este sistema é recomendado quando se gasta muita energia durante o dia. Quando entretanto o maior consumo é a noite ou destina-se a iluminação de emergencia devemos armazenar a energia gerada em baterias. A durabilidade das celulas solares é, geralmente de 30 anos e sua garantia de 20 anos.
